The Netherlands Embassy is supporting the business community in Ethiopia with regard to visa procedures for travel to the Netherlands on a case to case basis. To better facilitate companies and make procedures more transparent and uniform, the Netherlands government has established the ‘Orange Carpet’ facility.

The Orange Carpet facility offers frequent visa applicants from bona fide companies an upgraded visa application procedure. In practice, this includes the possibility to make application appointments on ‘urgent’ slots; the applicant does not have to present him- or herself in person, unless biometric data has not been taken yet; minimum amount of documents required for visa application, and; the possibility of obtaining multiple entry visa with extended validity (max 5 years). The latter depends on the length of stay in the Netherlands and amount of visits made to the Netherlands already.

To be eligible for the Orange Carpet facility, a company is required to fulfill the following conditions:

  • Frequent business trips by employees to the Netherlands, for which visa are needed. The company should be able to illustrate this with a minimum of 3 business trips annually;
  • >2 years presence of the company in Ethiopia, with a bona fide track record;
  • For companies that recently established an office in Ethiopia, a mother company in the Netherlands (>2 years) is required with a bona fide track record.

To apply for the Orange Carpet facility you are requested to send an original letter to the embassy in which the terms and conditions are accepted, find it here. In addition the letter with company letter head should contain the names and signatures of the persons authorized to sign the invitation or supporting letter and be stamped (if company stamp is available). These signatories should be part of the company’s management and/or head of the human resource department.

If you would like to receive more information or discuss the offered simplified visa application procedure, please contact the consular section of the embassy, add-ca@minbuza.nl or the economic counsellor (Eline van der Veen, eline.veen@minbuza.nl)
