Apply for your visa
For the regular visa customers the general counter is open on Monday till Friday between 8.30 - 11.00 am. It is not possible to make an appointment up front. Customers will be treated on a ‘first come – first serve’ basis.
For regular visa applications and legalizations the average processing time is three weeks. In case applications are incomplete, needs further investigation or needs to be forwarded to the competent authorities in the Netherlands, the processing time may take several weeks or longer. Applicants are therefore advised to submit their applications well in advance.
As of 15 February 2016 the Embassy started working with a Track & Trace system for passport and visa application. Check the status of your visa application.
Collection of documents
For the general counter the collection hours for visa, decisions, passports:
Monday to Thursday 02.00 - 03.30 pm - Friday 11:00 - 13:00 pm
Dutch passports should always be collected in person. By exception a visa applicant can authorize another person to collect the decision / visa on his / her behalf. For this a written and signed authorization letter from the visa applicant is needed, including a copy of the visa applicant’s passport.
The Embassy will report the use of false and counterfeit documents to the Ethiopian authorities depending on the forgery; these documents will not be returned to the applicant.
For customers applying for family reunification with a person granted the asylum status in the Netherlands, specific (family) tickets will be handed out on a daily basis. These tickets are non-transferable. A maximum of 25 (family) tickets will be handed out per day, depending upon the number of family members and type of request (new applicants, information).
The family reunification counter (Somalia counter) is open: Monday to Thursday 08.30 – 11.00 am
Collection at the family reunification counter is scheduled: Tuesday and Thursday 02.00 - 03.30 pm
For DNA and Civic Integration-exams specific appointments will be made by the consular section.
